There is a popular tradition of how the village was named Alambra. According to this, once it had caught fire and was heading for the village, then the terrified villagers gathered in the village church and prayed. Then came a young woman (Ayia Marina) who headed for fire, when she arrived there kneeling and praying to God, then the fire broke out and the village was saved. The word Alambra comes from the bright, which in Cyprus means fire. However, the Alambra had its name before the birth of Christ.
